Easing the Symptoms of Lupus With Diet

Filed under: Nutrition For Health — admin at 1:32 pm on Tuesday, March 25, 2008

The most common form of Lupus is systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Inflammation of connective tissue typically the joints coupled with a butterfly-shaped rash on the face across the nose, cheeks and forehead is typical symptoms of the autoimmune disease systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) up to nine times more common in women than men, typically affect those between twenty and forty years of age. As well as inflammation of the joints, the palms of the hands may become reddened, muscle aches, nausea, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, weight loss, chest pain, bruising, mouth sores, hair loss, seizures, and extreme tiredness may set in and a fever might occur.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease, this is when the immune system attacks the body instead of protecting it, in the case of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), the kidneys, lung, and vascular systems are at danger which can potentially be life-threatening. The exact cause of Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is unknown but it has been linked to the taking of drugs such as hydralazine, methyldopa, procainamide, and chlorpromazine, industrial emissions, environmental pollution and chemicals such as hydrazine and the food dye tartrazine and the ultraviolet radiation from the sun can trigger the lupus that affects the skin. Other elements which are risk factors for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are free radicals, low blood levels of antioxidant nutrients especially beta-carotene, vitamin A and vitamin E, family history of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), asthma, menstrual irregularity, other collagen diseases and exposure to toxic chemicals.

The symptoms of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) can be improved by diet, eat a vegetarian style diet but include plenty of oily fish such as mackerel, herring, pilchards, trout, salmon and tuna and flaxseed and linseed, avoid alcohol, sugar and caffeine. If you are a smoker, give up smoking and it is also best to avoid taking the contraceptive pill and hormone replacement therapy (HRT). There has been a link to food allergies and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) especially allergies to dairy products, it may be worth cutting down on dairy products in your diet.

Good supplements to take for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are milk thistle, flaxseed, evening primrose oil and fish oil.

The following supplements may help if you are suffering from Lupus.

B group vitamins

Carotenoids

Evening primrose oil

Fish oil

Flaxseed oil

Hemp seed oil

Milk thistle extract

Selenium

Vitamin C

Vitamin E

Flexible Payment Mortgages

Filed under: Real Estate — admin at 3:40 am on Tuesday, March 25, 2008

With most mortgages, your payment is the same every month. But what if your paycheck isn’t so regular? Would you like to be able to vary your mortgage payment depending on your cash flow? An option ARM — also called a flex-ARM or pick-a-payment loan — allows you to do just that.

How does it work?
An option ARM is an adjustable-rate mortgage with a twist. You don’t pay a set amount each month. Instead, the lender sends a monthly statement with up to four payment options. You simply choose the amount you want to pay that month and then submit your payment.

The options vary, but here’s the most common menu:

Minimum payment: This is calculated using an “initial” interest rate that can start as low as 1.25 percent. Because this payment is so low, it’s useful for months when you don’t have much cash on hand, perhaps because you are waiting for a commission or bonus check. But any unpaid interest gets deferred, or added to the principal of the loan, so your principal grows.

Interest only: You pay all the interest due, but none of the principal. This doesn’t reduce your mortgage balance, but it allows you to avoid deferring interest.

30-year amortized: This matches the monthly payment of a mortgage amortized over 30 years at your current interest rate. It includes both principal and interest.

15-year amortized: The same as above, but amortized over 15 years. This is the highest monthly payment. Choosing it allows you to reduce your principal faster than any other option.

The fine print
The biggest caveat with option ARMs is that those enticing initial rates are short-lived. The low minimum payments that make these mortgages so attractive can increase dramatically. In addition, every five years, the loan is recast — that is, a new amortization schedule is drawn up to ensure that the remaining balance will be paid off by the end of the loan’s term. When that happens, the minimum payment can be pushed even higher.

What’s more, if you defer too much interest, you can reach what’s called negative amortization. If your balance grows to 10 percent to 25 percent (depending on state law) greater than the original principal, your loan is automatically recast and you have to start paying the fully amortized rate, which will increase your monthly payments.

Another potential downside of option ARMs is that they’re more complicated than most other mortgages. Home buyers may be seduced without fully understanding how much the minimum payments will increase over the long-term. When the monthly amounts go up, these people can experience payment shock.

Maybe Money CAN Buy Happiness

Filed under: Self Improvement Hall — admin at 1:39 am on Tuesday, March 25, 2008

Can money buy happiness? It’s easy to say no, and probably correct, but that’s just a way to stop thinking about the tougher issues. What is your relationship to money, for example, and how do you use this most powerful of worldly tools?

Maybe you see that chasing after money for its own sake is destructive, but isn’t it equally damaging to have such a powerful instrument in your hands while pretending it has no importance?

Money Is Important

Some say that money isn’t important to them, but this isn’t true. The truth is they don’t see the importance. They make more than they need and yet complain they have no time for their children, when they could clearly trade time chasing money for time with their kids.

They want self-improvement, but instead of buying the tools to help them (a book, a class, a trip to a monastery) they put $800 televisions on credit cards. Then they work to pay for it all, taking even more time from their children and their own personal development.

It’s not about televisions. They can be good things. It’s about priorities. How we make money and how we spend money reveals ourselves. Do we like what we see? Clearly money is important.

Happiness

So, can money buy happiness? Well, it can help put the right conditions in place. Is it easier to be happy if you have food to eat? Whether you call that buying happiness or not, the understanding is more important than the argument.

Name any valuable goal or direction in your life. Can’t you, with a little imagination, see how money might help? Earn your money in a healthy, satisfying way, and spend it wisely, and of course you have a better chance to be happy. Clearly we need a deeper understanding of this issue than a cliche can provide.

Submitting your Web Site to Free Directories

Filed under: PR — admin at 7:17 pm on Monday, March 24, 2008

Submitting your website to the various online directories is an important part of any Link Popularity campaign. Whilst your traffic from many directories may be minor or irrelevant, relevant incoming links to your website will help in your overall search engine link popularity.
Other than Yahoo!, which is quite frankly beyond the reach of many smaller websites, paying for your directory submission can be a waste of money. You can get just as good a resultfrom submitting to free directories, or those that are free with a reciprocal link. If the directory is exceptionally good, the cost is low, and your directory ranking will be improved by paying a fee, do so if you wish. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend you pay for what you can get free elsewhere.
To start with on your submission campaign, in my opinion it is better to submit to those directories that will allow you to easily modify your listing. That way, you can correct mistakes and get your campaign down pat before submitting to directories that don’t allow you to logon and modify your submission, thus saving yourself from wasting or reducing in value your efforts in those directories.
What Directories to Submit To
The best are Search Engine Friendly directories (those that actually have your site URL listed at some point, rather than outlinks that are simply code). Some will ask for a reciprocal link, some will not. One list of non-reciprocal directories is at http://info.vilesilencer.com/main.php?rock=seo-friendly.php. Opinion at the moment is suggesting that non-reciprocal or one-way links are better, although any relevant link is useful. Directories that encode their links are mostly useful for traffic if their Alexa Ranking is high enough. Directories that do not encode outgoing links will help your website’s Search Engine Ranking.
Deep Linking
It can be worth linking to other pages on your site other than your main page. Before doing this, make sure that the directory you are submitting to permits you to both submit URLs other than your home page (some only allow top level submission), and for the same site to be submitted to different categories (not all directories permit what are essentially multiple submissions of the same website). This will work especially if you have online tools or directories (such as your links page) on your site that are useful and relevant to add to other directory categories.
Choose the Relevant Directory Category
Most directories will have many categories you can submit your site to. Decide on the one that is most relevant, preferably a keyword that you are aiming for high search engine ranking in, and try to submit to the same or similar category in every directory, at least for your main page (also see Deep Linking above). This will increase the ranking of your site relating to the keyword chosen.
Submit to Different Categories
If the directory allows multiple submissions, and your website is relevant in several categories, submit to all the relevant categories you can. This will increase the number of incoming links to your website. Again, carefully check the terms of any directory before trying this to make sure it is permitted.
Write Title
Write the title for your website. Try to include a keyword you are aiming for ranking in in the title, but make the use of it appropriate, don’t just bang a keyword in for the sake of it; you could get your site submission rejected.
Write Description
Describe your website in a way that will attract visitors. The length of your description will vary from directory to directory, but most will be under 250 characters. Some will allow up to 1,000 characters, and in those cases write the most comprehensive description of your site and its features that you can. It is a good idea to write several descriptions of different lengths, say from under 50 characters for a brief overview, to around 150 characters for a fuller description, up to 250 characters for a yet more comprehensive listing, and finally a full description as previously mentioned for over 250 characters. Keep your listing pertinent to your website, insert keywords where relevant and appropriate, but do not just submit a keyword listing, as most directories will reject your submission. Save all your descriptions in a text file, and just copy & paste into the descriptions boxes when needed rather than typing the same descriptions out again and again.
Choose Keywords
Again, as with the description mentioned above, the amount of keywords you can use will vary from directory to directory. Some will not give the option, some will allow you numbers of keywords, whilst others go by numbers of characters. Make a list of all relevant keywords for your site, from most important to least, and basically keep adding keywords until either you get to the bottom of your list (unlikely unless your list is really short) or you run out allowed characters/keywords. Check what keywords your competitors are going for if you need inspiration. This can often be done by viewing the source of a web page and checking the META tags. Again, save your keywords to a text file.
Keep Track of Your Progress
Keep a careful record of what directories you have submitted to, and your progress. It is far too easy to totally lose track of what you are doing, which does not help your linking campaign at all. The best way is by using a spreadsheet, such as Excel, to keep track of your campaign. At a minimum, you need to keep track of the following: Directory URL, Directory Name, Date Submitted, User Login & Password for those directories that allow you to alter your details and Response (accepted/declined). Other categories can include: Directory Alexa Ranking, Directory Page Rank (this will be for the home page only), Referral URL (if the directory will improve your ranking for referring visitors) and any Notes. If you are using the deep linking and multiple submissions strategies above, also keep track of what other pages you have submitted to each directory. Make a seperate entry for each URL submitted. For example, your spreadsheet columns could go as follows: Directory Name, Directory URL, URL Submitted, Referral URL, Login, Password, Alexa Ranking, Page Rank, Date Submitted, Response. I would advise keeping the list in alphabetical order, rather than order submitted, as that way you can check more easily whether or not you have submitted to a particular directory.

EFFECTIVE PRE-SELLING IN AFFILIATE MARKETING

Filed under: The Commercial Life — admin at 10:26 am on Monday, March 24, 2008

Pop quiz: name the fastest way to online success?

If your answer is product creation, then you would have to
reconsider the time and effort needed to come up with
merchandise that would sell.

If your answer is telecommuting, then you would have to remember
that such is almost tantamount to being an employee and working
for a boss, albeit, in the comforts of your own home.

The answer is quite clear. The fastest way to online success is
something that does not require an onerous financial investment,
if ever such is demanded which is rare, and something that does
not entail product conceptualization and execution. It does not
even require other obligations like the retention of a payment
processor or the installation of a digital delivery service.

Affiliate programs have long been hailed as the easiest and
speediest way to earn a fortune online, and for good reasons!
You won’t have to build your own products and test-drive them to
death. You’d have an entire inventory of proven products to
choose from! You won’t have to come up with a digital store that
would process payments from a variety of payment solution
options in the World Wide Web. This would be provided for as
well. You won’t have to hire an expensive copywriter to prepare
a sales page for you. One would be provided, with a proven
conversion rate at that.

What’s best is that you won’t be limited to only one affiliate
program to join. You could enroll in as many affiliate programs
you want! The more programs you join, the better your chances
are of earning a lot!

Affiliate programs, of course, are agreements between an
affiliate merchant and an affiliate, which would be you, for the
latter to pre-sell the products of the former. For every
successful sale that the affiliate would refer to the affiliate
merchant, the affiliate stands to earn a commission. Not just
piecemeal commissions, mind you. But generous commission in the
range of 20% to 95%!

The keyword in affiliate programs is pre-selling.

Pre-selling is very much different from actual selling. You
won’t to concern yourself with the usual demands of actually
distributing a product for profit. All you have to do is to
market the affiliate merchant’s products and drive people to
affiliate merchant’s sales page. Thereafter, the affiliate
merchant’s system would take care of the rest, from accepting
and processing payments, to delivering the goods, to customer
support.

So how do you effectively pre-sell an affiliate product?

You would be given an affiliate link for every product you would
choose to pre-sell. The trick is in displaying this affiliate
link in as many places in the World Wide Web as possible, so
that it would be exposed to many people.

Here are some proven strategies you could employ to drive people
to the affiliate merchant’s sales page en masse. Hopefully, the
probabilities are much higher when you manage to generate
referrals in droves.

* ARTICLE MARKETING. Write an article about a topic related to
the affiliate product you are pre-selling. Include a resource
box which contains your affiliate link. Submit the article to as
many article directories as you could find. A lot of people
refer to these article directories for information, and once
they read your piece as well as your resource box, you’re bound
to win some referrals.

* FORUM MARKETING. Join as many relevant forums as you could
find. With your membership in each of them, you’ll be allotted a
signature box where you could place your affiliate link. Your
signature box would appear in every post that you would make.
Try to make informative posts instead of sales pitches, as the
former have been proven to perform better.

* BLOGS. Blogs figure prominently in search engine page results.
Having your own blog would help your promote your affiliate
links. Simply pattern your entries as reviews or informative
pieces with suggestions, and strategically place your affiliate
links therein.

* HEADQUARTERS. Having your own website would help centralize
your promotional campaigns. You could have your links displayed
like products for sale, even though you’re just pre-selling
them. All you have to do is to generate traffic for your website
through some marketing strategies and search engine optimization
(SEO) techniques.

These are just some of the more popular ways of pre-selling the
affiliate merchant’s products. Remember, there is always
strength in numbers, so try to drive as many people as possible
to the affiliate merchant’s sales page, and you’re quite
guaranteed to enjoy a rewarding experience with affiliate
programs.

Reuniting Lost Pets With Their Owners

Filed under: Science Infos — admin at 6:28 am on Monday, March 24, 2008

Losing a family pet can be a traumatic experience, especially on children who are close to the lost pet. But, one in three pet owners fail to take the steps needed to ensure that this tragedy does not occur in their home. These steps can be as simple as providing a pet identification tag with up-to-date contact information in the event the family pet ever gets lost, so that the finder of the pet will have a resource to contact the pet owner.

Because a majority of pet owners fail to take this step, their family pet usually ends up in a shelter, or just released to wander around. One of the biggest concerns for pet owners on the upwardly mobile move is the cost associated with constantly purchasing a pet identification tag every time their contact information changes. To alleviate this situation , a company called RecoveryPets.Com provides a pet tag with a unique tracking number that links to their website, where the owners contact information can be updated for the life of the pet.

This company provides an easy access search for lost pets, and all the finder has to do is enter the unique tracking number and the owners contact information will instantly be displayed. One of the best benefits of this service is that it provides a one-stop convenient source for those who find a pet, and those that have a lost their pet. This is accomplished by the Global Pet Listing Service, that provides a photo and description of lost pets with contact information that can be broadcast across the internet. This service is accessible by all agencies that regularly deal with lost pets, and it provides them with a way to identify the owners if they have not registered with the Pet Tracking Service.

Tracking systems for animals is nothing new, but the majority of these systems require invasive devices implanted into the animal, and a lot of pet owners opt not to have this procedure done because of the risk involved, not to mention the cost of such a procedure. Another type of tracking is pet tattooing, but if the pet is lost, trying to find a tattoo that they do not know exist defeats the purpose. The pet identification tag can be worn on the collar of most domestic pets, and it is readily identified by the majority of people who find lost pets, and it does not require any type of invasive procedures to be performed on the pet.

Finding an affordable way to recover lost pets is the wish of every pet owner if their pet should ever become lost, but an ounce of prevention as the saying goes can save the owner from the traumatic experiences that are associated with losing the family pet. With today’s fast pace movements and population explosion , we do not have a chance to get to know our neighbors the way we used to, so having a means of identifying a lost pet that is affordable and recognizable can reduce the stresses associated with owning a pet who is a member of the family.

Addiction to Fame and Celebrity

Filed under: Cyber Lifestyle — admin at 6:09 am on Monday, March 24, 2008

Question:

Are Narcissists addicted to being famous?

Answer:

You bet. This, by far, is their predominant drive. Being famous encompasses a few important functions: it endows the narcissist with power, provides him with a constant Source of Narcissistic Supply (admiration, adoration, approval, awe), and fulfils important Ego functions.

The image that the narcissist projects is hurled back at him, reflected by those exposed to his celebrity or fame. This way he feels alive, his very existence is affirmed and he acquires a sensation of clear boundaries (where the narcissist ends and the world begins).

There is a set of narcissistic behaviours typical to the pursuit of celebrity. There is almost nothing that the narcissist refrains from doing, almost no borders that he hesitates to cross to achieve renown. To him, there is no such thing as “bad publicity” - what matters is to be in the public eye.

Because the narcissist equally enjoys all types of attention and likes as much to be feared as to be loved, for instance - he doesn’t mind if what is published about him is wrong (”as long as they spell my name correctly”). The narcissist’s only bad emotional stretches are during periods of lack of attention, publicity, or exposure.

The narcissist then feels empty, hollowed out, negligible, humiliated, wrathful, discriminated against, deprived, neglected, treated unjustly and so on. At first, he tries to obtain attention from ever narrowing groups of reference (”supply scale down”). But the feeling that he is compromising gnaws at his anyhow fragile self-esteem.

Sooner or later, the spring bursts. The narcissist plots, contrives, plans, conspires, thinks, analyses, synthesises and does whatever else is necessary to regain the lost exposure in the public eye. The more he fails to secure the attention of the target group (always the largest) - the more daring, eccentric and outlandish he becomes. Firm decision to become known is transformed into resolute action and then to a panicky pattern of attention seeking behaviours.

The narcissist is not really interested in publicity per se. Narcissists are misleading. The narcissist appears to love himself - and, really, he abhors himself. Similarly, he appears to be interested in becoming a celebrity - and, in reality, he is concerned with the REACTIONS to his fame: people watch him, notice him, talk about him, debate his actions - therefore he exists.

The narcissist goes around “hunting and collecting” the way the expressions on people’s faces change when they notice him. He places himself at the centre of attention, or even as a figure of controversy. He constantly and recurrently pesters those nearest and dearest to him in a bid to reassure himself that he is not losing his fame, his magic touch, the attention of his social milieu.

Truly, the narcissist is not choosy. If he can become famous as a writer - he writes, if as a businessman - he conducts business. He switches from one field to the other with ease and without remorse because in all of them he is present without conviction, bar the conviction that he must (and deserves to) get famous.

He grades activities, hobbies and people not according to the pleasure that they give him - but according to their utility: can they or can’t they make him known and, if so, to what extent. The narcissist is one-track minded (not to say obsessive). His is a world of black (being unknown and deprived of attention) and white (being famous and celebrated).

Mistreating Celebrities - An Interview

Granted to Superinteressante Magazine in Brazil

Q. Fame and TV shows about celebrities usually have a huge audience. This is understandable: people like to see other successful people. But why people like to see celebrities being humiliated?

A. As far as their fans are concerned, celebrities fulfil two emotional functions: they provide a mythical narrative (a story that the fan can follow and identify with) and they function as blank screens onto which the fans project their dreams, hopes, fears, plans, values, and desires (wish fulfilment). The slightest deviation from these prescribed roles provokes enormous rage and makes us want to punish (humiliate) the “deviant” celebrities.

But why?

When the human foibles, vulnerabilities, and frailties of a celebrity are revealed, the fan feels humiliated, “cheated”, hopeless, and “empty”. To reassert his self-worth, the fan must establish his or her moral superiority over the erring and “sinful” celebrity. The fan must “teach the celebrity a lesson” and show the celebrity “who’s boss”. It is a primitive defense mechanism - narcissistic grandiosity. It puts the fan on equal footing with the exposed and “naked” celebrity.

Q. This taste for watching a person being humiliated has something to do with the attraction to catastrophes and tragedies?

A. There is always a sadistic pleasure and a morbid fascination in vicarious suffering. Being spared the pains and tribulations others go through makes the observer feel “chosen”, secure, and virtuous. The higher celebrities rise, the harder they fall. There is something gratifying in hubris defied and punished.

Q. Do you believe the audience put themselves in the place of the reporter (when he asks something embarrassing to a celebrity) and become in some way revenged?

A. The reporter “represents” the “bloodthirsty” public. Belittling celebrities or watching their comeuppance is the modern equivalent of the gladiator rink. Gossip used to fulfil the same function and now the mass media broadcast live the slaughtering of fallen gods. There is no question of revenge here - just Schadenfreude, the guilty joy of witnessing your superiors penalized and “cut down to size”.

Q. In your country, who are the celebrities people love to hate?

A. Israelis like to watch politicians and wealthy businessmen reduced, demeaned, and slighted. In Macedonia, where I live, all famous people, regardless of their vocation, are subject to intense, proactive, and destructive envy. This love-hate relationship with their idols, this ambivalence, is attributed by psychodynamic theories of personal development to the child’s emotions towards his parents. Indeed, we transfer and displace many negative emotions we harbor onto celebrities.

Q. I would never dare asking some questions the reporters from Panico ask the celebrities. What are the characteristics of people like these reporters?

A. Sadistic, ambitious, narcissistic, lacking empathy, self-righteous, pathologically and destructively envious, with a fluctuating sense of self-worth (possibly an inferiority complex).

6. Do you believe the actors and reporters want themselves to be as famous as the celebrities they tease? Because I think this is almost happening…

A. The line is very thin. Newsmakers and newsmen and women are celebrities merely because they are public figures and regardless of their true accomplishments. A celebrity is famous for being famous. Of course, such journalists will likely to fall prey to up and coming colleagues in an endless and self-perpetuating food chain…

7. I think that the fan-celebrity relationship gratifies both sides. What are the advantages the fans get and what are the advantages the celebrities get?

A. There is an implicit contract between a celebrity and his fans. The celebrity is obliged to “act the part”, to fulfil the expectations of his admirers, not to deviate from the roles that they impose and he or she accepts. In return the fans shower the celebrity with adulation. They idolize him or her and make him or her feel omnipotent, immortal, “larger than life”, omniscient, superior, and sui generis (unique).

What are the fans getting for their trouble?

Above all, the ability to vicariously share the celebrity’s fabulous (and, usually, partly confabulated) existence. The celebrity becomes their “representative” in fantasyland, their extension and proxy, the reification and embodiment of their deepest desires and most secret and guilty dreams. Many celebrities are also role models or father/mother figures. Celebrities are proof that there is more to life than drab and routine. That beautiful - nay, perfect - people do exist and that they do lead charmed lives. There’s hope yet - this is the celebrity’s message to his fans.

The celebrity’s inevitable downfall and corruption is the modern-day equivalent of the medieval morality play. This trajectory - from rags to riches and fame and back to rags or worse - proves that order and justice do prevail, that hubris invariably gets punished, and that the celebrity is no better, neither is he superior, to his fans.

8. Why are celebrities narcissists? How is this disorder born?

No one knows if pathological narcissism is the outcome of inherited traits, the sad result of abusive and traumatizing upbringing, or the confluence of both. Often, in the same family, with the same set of parents and an identical emotional environment - some siblings grow to be malignant narcissists, while others are perfectly “normal”. Surely, this indicates a genetic predisposition of some people to develop narcissism.

It would seem reasonable to assume - though, at this stage, there is not a shred of proof - that the narcissist is born with a propensity to develop narcissistic defenses. These are triggered by abuse or trauma during the formative years in infancy or during early adolescence. By “abuse” I am referring to a spectrum of behaviors which objectify the child and treat it as an extension of the caregiver (parent) or as a mere instrument of gratification. Dotting and smothering are as abusive as beating and starving. And abuse can be dished out by peers as well as by parents, or by adult role models.

Not all celebrities are narcissists. Still, some of them surely are.

We all search for positive cues from people around us. These cues reinforce in us certain behaviour patterns. There is nothing special in the fact that the narcissist-celebrity does the same. However there are two major differences between the narcissistic and the normal personality.

The first is quantitative. The normal person is likely to welcome a moderate amount of attention - verbal and non-verbal - in the form of affirmation, approval, or admiration. Too much attention, though, is perceived as onerous and is avoided. Destructive and negative criticism is avoided altogether.

The narcissist, in contrast, is the mental equivalent of an alcoholic. He is insatiable. He directs his whole behaviour, in fact his life, to obtain these pleasurable titbits of attention. He embeds them in a coherent, completely biased, picture of himself. He uses them to regulates his labile (fluctuating) sense of self-worth and self-esteem.

To elicit constant interest, the narcissist projects on to others a confabulated, fictitious version of himself, known as the False Self. The False Self is everything the narcissist is not: omniscient, omnipotent, charming, intelligent, rich, or well-connected.

The narcissist then proceeds to harvest reactions to this projected image from family members, friends, co-workers, neighbours, business partners and from colleagues. If these - the adulation, admiration, attention, fear, respect, applause, affirmation - are not forthcoming, the narcissist demands them, or extorts them. Money, compliments, a favourable critique, an appearance in the media, a sexual conquest are all converted into the same currency in the narcissist’s mind, into “narcissistic supply”.

So, the narcissist is not really interested in publicity per se or in being famous. Truly he is concerned with the REACTIONS to his fame: how people watch him, notice him, talk about him, debate his actions. It “proves” to him that he exists.

On Turning Sixty

Filed under: Funny Stuff — admin at 5:30 am on Monday, March 24, 2008

Although it’s brought me that much closer to transforming into
worm food, I’ve found that turning sixty is not without its
compensations. While it’s true, for example, that my member
isn’t getting a proper supply of blood anymoreand that I can no
longer write my name in the sand and must settle for my
initialsI can still have lots of fun with it. Thanks to a
prostate gland the Museum of Humongous Prostate Glands has
already put in a bid for when I buy the farm, my urine stream
now bifurcates at the exit point. This means that I can pee into
the toilet and the adjacent bathtub at the same timewhich is a
kick. My urologist says that while he can make no promises,
there’s a good chance that in the not too distant future I’ll be
capable of TRIfurcating. This will enable me to pee in the
toilet, the bathtub AND the laundry basket simultaneously.

I can’t wait.

And by making it possible to legitimately ignore questions that
have always annoyed the hell out of me (”When are you getting a
job?” is a persistent one that’s never failed to spill some
really nasty chemicals in my brain), my newly developed hearing
loss has a terrific upside as well. Not, to be sure, that its
downside isn’t just as major. I mean, how many invitations to
lunch have I blown? How many people have said, “Let me buy you
lunch,” and I’ve said in reply, “But we still don’t have Bin
Laden”? (As thorny as this problem is, I’ve managed to ease it
somewhat by saying, maybe a dozen times a day to people with
whom I come into contact, “Thanks, that’s great.” Though
probably 500 of them have looked at me in a very askance kind of
wayand one, I’m not sure why exactly, punched me in the
stomachI’ve gotten six lunches doing this that I would
otherwise have missed out on. Not to mention a free ticket to a
Robert Goulet concert!)

But if the benefits and drawbacks of my hearing impairment are
more or less equal, the short-term memory loss that’s
accompanied my sexagenarianism has a plus side that actually
outweighs its minus side. I’m speaking, of course, of the
guarantee it can afford me that a movie I’m going to will be a
good one. I’ll notice, for instance, an ad for a movie and tell
a friend about it. The friend will advise me that I saw the
movie just a week ago. I’ll ask him if I liked it and if he
says, “Yeah, you couldn’t stop talking about it,” I’ll think,
hey, how often does a movie come with THAT kind of
recommendation and I’ll go immediately to see it. I’m told that
I’ve seen “Pearl Harbor” eight times now.

(I might add here that my short-term memory loss in no way
affects my ability to remember the last time I had sex.)

But of the many compensatory rewards that turning sixty
provides, there’s one that I value most of all. Although I can
still croak at a RELATIVELY early age, I’ll be spared the
embarrassment of expiring at a TRAGICALLY early age.

Finding the Perfect Blouse for Your Body Type

Filed under: Attire — admin at 4:08 am on Monday, March 24, 2008

Unlike T-shirts, which more or less hide the shape of the body, blouses emphasize the form. It is more feminine and more formal, often used in the corporate world as well as in semi-formal occasions.

Different cuts and designs fit different body types. There are some that flatters a certain body type while there are some that falters. It is important that you find the right cut and style that will not only emphasize your best assets but will also hide your problem areas.

Going with the lines

Stripes and lines in blouses have huge effect in the way the eye perceives the whole body. Vertical lines in blouses will elongate the body and will make it appear longer and leaner. This is recommended for people who are short or those who are on the full side.

Horizontal lines in blouses, on the other hand, draws the eyes wide, making the image the lines frame wider and fatter. Thin people or those in the leaner side will appear fuller when wearing this kind of blouse.

Colors have it all

As a fashion rule of thumb, black and other dark colors will minimize fullness. In fact, people who have full figures should go with black wardrobes as the color black especially in blouses will make them appear leaner.

Bright colors on blouses, on the other hand emphasize the upper body. In addition to making it appear bigger and wider, bright colors will also draw attention to the body that it frames. If your problem area is the lower body, such as wide hips, bright-colored blouses will help minimize the attention.

Bright colored-blouses is also recommended for people who have great shoulders and great upper body area while dark colors are recommended for those who have upper body area problems.

To keep it simple, wear a dark-colored blouse if you wish to hide something in the upper area and a bright-colored blouse if you want to draw attention to your upper body area.

Cuts cut it

The cut of the blouse will also factor a lot in the way you are seen. Blouses with empire cuts for example will hide wide waistlines while emphasizing the chest area. Tight-fitting blouses on the other hand is best worn by women who have leaner figures. Full-figured women are discouraged to wear tight-fitting blouses because these blouses only serve to highlight the fullness.

Facial factor

The cuts of the collars of blouses will also help flatter not only the figure but also the facial structure.

Women with wide jaws or those with a square-shaped facial structures are advised to wear blouses with V necklines. This is also true with women with round faces. They should also avoid wearing blouses with Sabrina-type collars and closed collars as these will only emphasize the square-ness and the roundness of the facial structure.

Women with long faces are recommended to wear blouses with square-shaped necklines and round necklines. This will help cut the length of the facial structure. Sabrina type necklines and those with wide necklines will also flatter them.

Women with long necks can pretty much wear anything they like. When wearing blouses with a dipping neckline, they just need to wear a long necklace to create an illusion of cut.
