Poker Superstitions

Being a game that is at least partially bound in luck, it can be funny to see the kind of superstitious behavior exhibited in grown men playing a online poker game with other grown men. Though many pros have pointed to the idea that superstition in poker online is a quick way to align yourself with behaviors that will take you out of playing your best odds, other well known players have exhibited clear tendencies and premonitions that they believe make them more likely to win in the long run.

Sam Farha, for instance, is perhaps most known for his ‘lucky cigarette,’ a prop he holds his in mouth without smoking, until he believes that its luck has expired, at which point he replaces the cigarette in hopes of replacing the vibe.

Phil Laak, perhaps one of the more exuberant poker players in the game, seems riddled with all sorts of little quirks and mannerisms, such as betting peculiar numbers and thinking correctly about what will come in the way of willing it to happen.

At their heart, however strange, these behaviors act to endow the players with a sense of being in the right vibe at the right time, which in and of itself can be empowering. You have to believe you are going to win to win, and sometimes doing what you need to do in the way of ritual can be the bead that puts you in the exact right mindset to play your best poker.
