Is Your Home Energy Efficient

Filed under: Home Improvement Parlor — admin at 6:14 am on Friday, January 22, 2010

If you believe in climate change or not, having an energy efficient home should be a priority for everyone. Energy efficient appliances and efficient use of energy will of course help the environment, but using less energy also means saving more cash!

The Ecohomes directive is targeted towards making new homes more energy efficient and by making the owners and developers aware of the environmental impact of the build. For new homes this means they are built with the local environment in mind, but what about existing buildings?

Things you can do in your existing home include replacing your fridge, freezer and washing machine with grade A energy efficient appliances. If you use a tumble dryer regularly consider drying your clothes the old fashion way on a washing line or on a clothes horse. Turn lights off during the day, take showers instead of baths and keep the thermostat as low as possible.

All of these methods will save money and the environment and don’t require too much effort. They are actionable for everyone and who knows, maybe the money saved can go towards more extravagant energy solutions such as solar panels? In the modern world we live in there really is little excuse for energy wastage.

Guess Eyeglasses Force as Industry Leader Is Infused in Ample Tradition

Guess Eyeglasses

In the year 1989, Guess was a brand already recognized for forward-thinking. The American business rapidly became the pioneer of the designer jean movement that took place in the early 1980s. With its identifiable three zipper style of dungaree, Guess was the first brand to promote designer jeans. Soon thereafter the other fashion labels quickly followed suit. After that, as most brands do after seeing enormous success, Guess branched out into distinct fashion-based ventures. By 1984, the company once again made waves in the industry after premiering their collection of designer watches. The watches, like the jeans before them, were extremely popular. As time went along, Guess found themselves digging further into other marketing opportunities by making several different collections of accessories, such as belts, hats, and now designer Guess Eyeglasses.

Morocco conjures a sense of trend-setting opulence of Europe. This harkens back to an afternoon spent on a yacht in the Riviera, sipping champagne. Simultaneously, California has a laid back appeal, that is all-American in its delivery. An unbuttoned and not-so-put-together look gives the vibe of an afternoon spent catching waves flowing seamlessly into an evening sitting around a bonfire. By taking both of these distinct elements, Guess is able to create eyewear like no other label in the world. Guess brand style is known as both avant garde and simply chic. The Guess brand versatile reputation stems from the mixture of the founders homeland of Morocco and their adopted home state of California. The ease and tranquility of the water aside, both of these lands couldn’t be and more different than the other.

Some Thoughts about Volunteers and the Businesses They Work for

Filed under: Money Making, Social Resources — admin at 5:01 pm on Monday, January 18, 2010

We all know that volunteer work is a great way to strengthen community bonds and in the same stride assist those in need. Doing it yourself, however, organizing your schedule so that you’re free to volunteer tends to waste some of that very same free time. And you’ll have more fun volunteering with your colleagues getting involved by your side. Thus, firms have begun making themselves into points of organization to help their employees work for the community. A leader in this field is Adaptive Marketing LLC of Connecticut who also offer shopping programs like Credit Diagnosis (MVQ*CRDIAGNOSIS) to consumers. Such initiatives used to be annual activities — but today that can be seen as the minimum of effort. Shoe recycling initiatives and more energetic campaigns like tree planting events — these and others are among the activities that have been arranged for its workforce by Adaptive Marketing. For events like these, the locations, dates and times of the events were announced, which made it simple for employees to know what to expect, and how much of a time commitment was required specifically. It is essential to let volunteers support activities that fit their interests. Employees of Adaptive Marketing, the firm who developed the financial benefits program Credit Diagnosis (MVQ*CRDIAGNOSIS), can select from a selection of volunteer programs. Once you start looking for things to do you see so many, after all; working with children, lending a hand to environmental activities, or supporting local artistic projects to name but a few. Adaptive Marketing’s members of staff have so much to choose from that they’re certain to find something they enjoy to volunteer for, ensuring they’ll enjoy the time they spend volunteering.

A big one-off event or a regularly scheduled day — this is how a business usually arranges this kind of volunteer initiative, often at a nearby homeless shelter or one of the local schools. Employees may well say they have no time to give, though we’d be surprised if they seriously can’t free up enough resources to help at one instalment of a long-term project. You’ll find plenty of examples of firms supporting the citizens of their home town. Like many other businesses, Adaptive Marketing maintains volunteer programs to support the people of its home town and to generate goodwill within its home community through its staffers actions. What volunteer work is guaranteed to do is leave your workforce feeling good about themselves, creating a motivated corporate culture.

Facing East [Chapter 1 & 2/and a Poem]

Bavaria’s Harvest
[Augsburg, Germany]

Your enchanting rivers, with earth-bearing decay;
Your picturesque cathedral, weather tarnished;
Your citadel-worn clocksBavarian *time;
The city's fountain of regal design;
Your ancient, thick walls of Roman descent;
Your houses of pleasure, with red lights of tinge;
Your burial grounds, where all must lay in time;
Your lost and hidden beauty undefined.
Your houses of schnitzel,  and guesthouses** of brew;
Your rural potato pickers worn old.
(Ah, Augsburg! Ay, me! Your texture, your cover.)
Your festivals of tents, with flavored birch
I feel your medieval songs, Your harvest gold,
Past, but still present inside my soul.

Facing East

1

In the Beginning

[Augsburg, West Germany, l970] It was a troubling time, back in the late 60s and early 70s the war in Vietnam was going on, as was the war inside of Rolande’s head, slowly ending. Love does not have a name in my story, although it has side effects, for both involved. Love as we knew it was the wealth it gave us, for what it was worth at the moment, we both I think forgot to look at ourselves, what was important was grabbing the moment for our own personal reasons, or gains. It was maybe what we wanted though, and needed; maybe that was the best combination of the whole affair. Maybe this was more an affair, yes, that’s exactly what it was, more of an affair, yup. But I prefer it reside in the river of truth, so I place it in the space that lies between two people as growing pains. She was twenty-four years old, I was twenty-two.

2

A View in

The East

(Christopher Chavez) The street was narrowan army compound, with its towering concrete wall, in West Germany, towered above my head, as I walked along its narrow sidewalk if one takes walking seriouslyand in the distance you could see the emerging city as it started to surround you. Towards the end were guard towers, trees, and more streets. At night when I walked home along this walk, the lights seemed always to be twisted, but then I was seldom sober.

Until the huge wall emerged, the compound was completely concealed; thus, until that moment the element of surprise remained. New recruits, assigned to the military compound would seldom dare to glance along this long side view of the compound in fear they would not find their way back I believe. They were young and unraveled for the most part, their contempt for being in this foreign land and city of Augsburg, and even for being assigned to a small compound like Reese, knew no bounds in disappointment.

The water tower in back of the compound could be seen above the large concrete walls as could some of the trees when I walked steadily along the side of the tower wall going down the street as the VWs and Mercedes passed me. Very cleaver I thought if anything, for surely World War Two, the Nazis’ could have used it in part, for spying; but the more I think about it, I suppose they used more sophisticated means, and spying on whom, themselves?

The area around the compound had a gothic kind of look, medieval not like the inside barracks in the compound. The barracks green and patched with red and brown colors: gave it a drab and rustic feeling, if not a flat affect on the mind. I never liked the colors, but then I’m no decorating freak anyhow, it will do.

Its countless windows with decaying iron and wood could had never contemplated another defense against any new war of the 60s or 70s, for I’m sure its painful memories of the Nazi era filled its spaces. On all four of the barrack sides were doors, as heavy as the church doors down in Augsburg, in the middle of the city that is, with its iron sides, like an old fire-escape. This iron went to the upper and lower parts of the doors.

The rooms were small, four men to a room, and in some, two men to a room, and if you were a part of Security Police Force, as I am, one to a room, but the room was like a prison cell, one could say, in that it was a thin emplacement: no more than 12-feet long and six feet wide. Thank God I was not claustrophobic.

There were upper rooms to these three stories barracks, filled with staircases on each side of the building, and in the center of it, as if there were to be constant drills [thus, meaning: having soldiers running about].

The windows were dark at night, only a lifeless light could be seen from a distance: our bed check sergeant could be seen walking up those lonely steps at night with his flashlight as to check each room and see who was missing at twelve-midnight. He was an asshole, one who loved to kick people in the ass as they walked up the stairs, I often said to myself, ‘Don’t, don’t you dare.’ I think he read my mind, the bastard he never did play around with me.

Now that I think about it looking back at the building over the wall, one might think of a Peeping Tom, as you look through the windows and see the light shinning in on the stairs leading up to the second floor; I somehow can picture a crazy old man with a toothless mouth peering through the doorways like a guard in a prison cell: thinking about escaping.

As I continued to walk down the street, smoking a cigarette I walked along this wall, I walk it almost every day, my mind would produce these visions, as I pressed forward with the excitement I knew would be ahead of me: simply excitement for a privet like me, nothing to wake up the dead. The coming bar scene, the good dark German beer, the girls, and a few friends might be at one of the bars: that was my excitement. I knew by walking, not by hiding at the damn compound I’d survive this adventure, aloneness, ordeal at times, I’d get there, and the night would start, which would make me focus on ‘the here and now,’ not the bullshit of the Army life.

And I did exactly that, kept walking, looking ahead, closer and closer coming to my lifeless adventure for the evening.

The very air above me seemed fresher now that I had left the compound with its military madness. Ski Nutgall would meet me there, or be there, most likely, be there, at the guesthouse that is, several blocks northeast of the compound. He merely put up with the military; his head was some other place it always seemed, wondering why he was still here, here at Reese [meaning: he military compound] Germany I guess! It seemed to me the way he acted was like he was on some expensive vacation: he is separated from the real army, mentally anyway,like the Army is from the Marines.

As I observed my watch, I noticed I was making good time, I do when I talk to myself. I was now far from the great walls of my assigned military compound, my home away from home; out of sight, out of mind. That is how a draftee thinks I think. Or I wonder if I simply act the way I think people expect me to act: sometimes I just don’t know. It seemed about half the people in the Army actually joined the Army, not sure why, but the other half like me, got drafted. You know the ones that didn’t make it to college, or got married before l965; a cut off date someone came up with. They have all these rules so they can figure out who is dispensable and who is not. I was one that was dispensable I guess. But then so was Elvis, everyone over here seems to like him, that being: the Germans in particular. I think the U.S. Government tried to get rid of Elvis so they could get back to the old ways of music and thinking, he was surely a rebel for his time: and if anyone changed America, it was him. He’s settled down now somewhat I hear.

I can see the guesthouse now from where I am at now, catching the wooden beam crossovers in the middle sides of the guesthouse like a sloppy-x, it always looks so medieval heavy; and along the sides and front of the establishment is the walkway, it looks deserted, yet it is only 8:00 PM, early for night life, just wait, it will be swinging soon Christopher…

Going Green — Henry Kravis and Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co. Make it Less Painful for Everyone

Filed under: Social Resources — admin at 10:10 am on Thursday, January 14, 2010

Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co (KKR) was launched in the mid seventies and in those days their specialty was in ‘bootstrap’ buyouts. However, they have launched a novel proposal which centers not only on optimizing ROI, but in addition on the environmental impact of the companies they buy. Green business practice became more widely acceptable last year when KKR’s Henry Kravis and the non-profit Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) joined forces. Issues like toxic emissions and colossal water consumption rank high on their agenda. Eco-efficiency (the term was initially pitched by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development WBCSD) fashions the framework for their mission, utilizing policies like increasing the durability of products, reducing the intensity of materials and using clean energy. The program was successful, but the management didn’t realize the range of the project’s benefits until Ken Mehlman, the head of the program and global public affairs, studied the project when it had been in operation for its first twelve months.

Much to everyone’s surprise, Ken learned that this program not only helped in proctecting the environment, but also increased the profitability of all their business organizations besides. Virtually all of the firms affiliated to KKR and Ken Mehlman nowadays are participating in eco-efficiency principles. If you think about the fact that this group of business concerns has a net worth of nearly $100 billion USD, you may be certain that this was no easy achievement. The original project now includes new ventures. The Climate Corps Program established by the Environmental Defense Fund is one of these, it promotes cost-effective, environmentally friendly practices to MBA interns. KKR and Ken Mehlman have been formulating systems that quantify and oversee various resources. This type of information is critical as companies may easily examine their day to day procedures and find out how they can resolve any issues while simultaneously seeing their progress.

The business community has been altered permanently by the efforts of Henry Kravis, the KKC, and the Environmental Defense Fund. In summary, the work of these organizations has made green business techniques not only viable, but commercially desirable, and their novel ideas are setting a new standard in the business world of today.

Equipment Tips for the Optometrists’ Practice

Filed under: IT + More — admin at 7:41 am on Wednesday, January 13, 2010

To succeed in opthalmology, education and experience are not enough to win through alone. The quality of what you do will in part be determined by the optometry instruments you decide to employ, which makes your decisions paramount. When buying your equipment, you must decide to acquire remanufactured, refurbished, used, or new systems. Exam stools, digital tonometers, instrument delivery systems — these and more ought to be scrutinized on an individual basis to get hold of what’s exactly right on target for your needs.

Useful for numerous diagnoses, tonometers are available in a variety of forms to suit the needs of each and every opthalmologist. If you want to be certain of the greatest accuracy you should take care to utilize top market quality brand tonometers and those which provide most painless use, which creates a healthy acceleration of the diagnostic process — benefitting your patients and your practice alike.

The frustration created by a chair which won’t hold a patient according to your requirements is legendary in the field. Consequently, selecting the optimal exam chairs is every bit as much about comfort as about utility. Even the largest patient can be lowered and raised to the ideal level by a fully adjustable examination chair. The exam chairs you select must also bear the patient and make his diagnosis as comfortable as as can be. This is more essential for more in-depth and longer visits.

Your optometry instruments must aid your work, not create a struggle. This makes a good treatment cabinet a valuable addition to your practice. Drawers for difficult-to-store tools, leveling glides for uncertain floors, secure locks, and movable shelves are hallmarks of the treatment cabinets which make the most efficient storage out there. You should be sure to purchase a size that will actually fit into your office space comfortably. Examination chairs, tonometers, and treactment cabinets are just three pieces of optometry equipment which can affect your ability to do your job and to what level of efficiency. So, be certain of what your exact requirements are — make a list! — before you start that shopping spree. As you should know, buying inferior and or imprecise gear will be guaranteed to disrupt you, but the easier to handle and the more precise your instrumentation, the better you will be able to perform in your practice. Select your optimal range, and you’ll find yourself positively astounded at how much smoother this can make the work in your practice.

Thus, the equipment you choose will be sure to have a respectable effect on how well you do in your professional role in general, and, last not least, the growth of the entire practice.

For more suggestions, you are advised to hop over to our marvelous web site for examination chair hints…
