A wide range of malicious trojans, keyloggers, spybots and tracking threats are put at bay with the Spyware Doctor. At first phishing consisted only of a social engineering scam in which phishers spammed consumer e-mail accounts with letters ostensibly from banks. The more people got aware of the scam, the less spelling mistakes these messages contained, and the more these fraudulent websites resembled legitimate ones. Phishers are getting smarter. They eagerly learn; there is enough money involved here to turn criminals into earnest students. Data loggers, key loggers are just a few programs which harvest info from your computer. Winclear is the only program created specially to auto remove such spywares. Instead they wrote the program to be used “legitimately” to keep tabs on business employees spouses concerned about affairs and keeping a watchful eye on teenagers’ internet surfing habits. That is why every computer owner needs winclear.

Web Design for the Professional Magician Part I - Selecting the Perfect Domain Name

Filed under: Web Portal — admin at 4:23 am on Saturday, May 10, 2008

Selecting the Perfect Domain Name

The first issue I have with magician web sites is the improper use of domain names. Examine the following list of URLs and select the most professional one:

Example 1

Unfortunately the first site is too common today. It is too long to be remembered. It is also too long to be accurately typed. Who knows what site your potential visitor may end up loading into their browser. More importantly it is unprofessional. With the low cost to register domain names and host web sites, there is no longer any reason to use this type of web site as a professional magician.

These URLs are usually found on business cards with perforations around the edges. If this applies to you, then please listen to this simple advice. Please spend the small amount of money it takes to look like a professional or don’t pretend that you are one. Your potential clients are not impressed. They will not hire you. This advice applies to both the web sites and the business cards. Let’s review the pros and cons.

www.freewebspace.com/users/losers/reallosers/Hire-me.html

Pros

  • It’s free

Cons

  • It’s free because your visitors are bombarded with ads (Viva Cialis)
  • It’s unprofessional. You look cheap because you are. Don’t Be!
  • It’s too loooooooooooooooooooong.
  • It too hard to type out without mistkes.
  • Too many limits on designs and script usage.

Example 2

The second example shows another trend. The good domains are often taken. Magicians look to claim some Web real estate by getting a domain name with cute names by substituting numbers or misspellings to find a “suitable” domain name. The main issue is that potential visitors may not remember your “cute” name and never find your site. It is better than the first URL, but not much.

This example shows another common strategy. Magicians will use a less common extension such as .org , .biz or .tv. It is my belief that a weaker name with “.com” is better than a stronger name without the “.com”. Most people don’t understand about domain names. The general sentiment among your potential clients is that .com appears more professional than .biz.

www.Kooool-Magic-2day4U2.tv/

Pros

  • It’s slightly better than the prior example
  • It contains some keywords (mostly misspelled and numberized)
  • It’s your own domain name

Cons

  • Doesn’t use .com
  • Words are misspelled
  • Numbers are substituted for words
  • It uses too many hyphens
  • Too long
  • More cute than professional

Example 3

The third example shows the use of a web host without a domain name. With your own host you will have maximum flexibility over web design. The ability to use server side scripting and databases make this a good approach. The main problem is that without the domain name it still looks unprofessional. Even with the great looking web pages, it still appears to be DIY (do it yourself). A weak domain name is better than no domain name.

www.WebToastyHosty.com/234asdkjfd/No-hire-me.html

Pros

  • Full control over design
  • Can use server side scripting languages
  • Can use databases to dynamically create web pages

Cons

  • Lacks your own domain name
  • Looks unprofessional
  • Hard to remember
  • No keywords in URL
  • URL has no tie to your USP (unique selling proposition)

Example 4

The final example is the best of the lot. The domain name ends in .com. It also has the keyword ‘magic’ in it. It is reasonably short and memorable. It doesn’t have any misspellings, hyphens or number4word substitutions. The “tiki” is part of the magician’s character concept and is utilized in other marketing efforts. It helps differentiate him from other magicians. The web site is a retro sixties tiki lounge approach. Very unique and very cool. :) We will examine this site in more detail in later articles dealing with effective web promotional strategies.

www.TikiMagic.com

Pros

  • Professional looking URL
  • Domain name uses keywords
  • Domain name uses USPs
  • Easy to remember
  • Full control over design
  • Can use server side scripting languages
  • Can use databases to dynamically create web pages and other great uses.

Cons

  • Requires more time to maintain
  • Requires a little money to register domain name
  • Requires a little more money to host

Conclusion

This concludes Part I of Web Design for Professional Magicians. If you have not already done so get your own domain name. Search Google for many cheap places to do so. Email me if you are having trouble with your domain name or registering it.
The key points for selecting domain names:

  1. Try to get a .com domain name.
  2. Keep it reasonably short and memorable.
  3. Avoid misspellings and word substitution (4 instead of for).
  4. Limit the use of hyphens.
  5. Try to incorporate your USPs and keywords in the name.

Blogging - Five Things You Should Know

Filed under: Web Portal — admin at 9:30 am on Tuesday, May 6, 2008

Current info about blogging is not always the easiest thing to
locate. Fortunately, this report includes the latest blogging
info available.

So you want to join in on the blogging phenomenon? Before you
get started, there are a few things you should know about
blogging. Blogging is a lot like an online journal. There are
thousands of bloggers online posting each day. It is a trend
that started in 1997 and has continued to grow steadily. If you
are interesting in blogging, but have not yet began, read over
these five things you should know before you begin.

You Can Be Personal

Many times new bloggers are really not sure what to post. They
know that their blog is a personal space, but they are afraid to
make their posts personal in any way. The best bloggers do put
themselves out there via their posts. They will post what’s on
their mind and their views or opinions on pressing issues. They
may do so in a humorous manner or be quite serious. Sometimes
new bloggers are afraid to post their true thoughts because
their blog can be commented upon. The fact is however that not
everyone will agree with your thoughts and posts, but you should
not let that hold you back. These are people who don’t
personally know you, so their comments really don’t matter much
anyway. Don’t be afraid to let your true feelings show on your
blog, after all, that it what an online journal is all about.

Don’t Be Too Personal

Although it is fine to be personal in your posts, you might not
want to be too personal in how much you disclose about yourself.
For example, including your phone number or address in a post or
on your profile is probably not a good idea. You should think
smart and only allow people to know things that you want them to
know. For your own safety, you might not want to post your last
name either. When someone has a lot of information about you, it
is easier for them to victimize you through identity theft,
harassment, or other crimes. So, stay safe and never post really
private information.

If you base what you do on inaccurate information, you might be
unpleasantly surprised by the consequences. Make sure you get
the whole blogging story from informed sources.

Never Use Real Names

When you are posting, and keeping it personal and real, there
can be times in which other people in your life come up in
topic. Be very careful including other people in your posts.
First, never use their real names. This is a huge mistake.
Unless the person gives you permission to write about them, you
should never do so. It will only lead to trouble. If the person
you mention reads your blog, they could get offended that you
are writing about them. Even if the post is positive, it can be
seen much like talking behind their back. Try to keep the posts
about you or celebrities or other public figures. Let everyone
else’s business remain their own.

Keep It Fresh

One of the best things you can do as a blogger is to keep your
blog fresh. This means that you should be posting often and
changing things around when doing so. Post on different topics
so your audience can stay interested. Also, post at least twice
a week. People who will become fans of your site will want to
read as much as possible on your blog. Updating your blog
regularly will allow them to be entertained. If you only post
once a month, chances are no one will remember to keep checking
your blog and your traffic will not be impressive.

You Can Blog For Free

Before you pay an arm and a leg for a blogging space, you should
know that there are sites where you can blog for free. Yes, for
no charge at all you can set up your own blog. These sites are
great for the new blogger. If you want something a little more
sophisticated, you might have to pay for it. The free sites are
very well maintained however. They are easy to use and offer
several different templates for you to use when designing your
blog. They automatically update your posts for you, which make
them a breeze! Remember, you should not pay a large fee for your
blog, especially if you are new to blogging. Do your research
and find the free sites!

You can’t predict when knowing something extra about blogging
will come in handy. If you learned anything new about &keyword%
in this article, you should file the article where you can find
it again.

Chicago Web Site Design Companies

Filed under: Web Portal — admin at 3:37 pm on Friday, March 21, 2008

There are hundreds of Web design companies located in Chicago and choosing a Web site design company for your own site is no easy job. It requires a lot of planning and preparation beforehand. It is important to look at the previous projects completed by the company before arriving at a decision. Moreover, some Chicago design companies specialize in creating Web site designs for particular kinds of clients, be it professionals or small businesses or Fortune 500 companies. It is thus necessary to do some homework before zeroing in on the right one to meet your business needs.

Careful thought must go into choosing a Web site design company. One must decide what the site’s needs are, and then methodically go about selecting a company that can best fulfill them. Things like whether the company is capable of adding any back-end functions to the design or whether they offer search engine optimization may affect the decision. Other factors like the company’s willingness to design around items that have already been designed by someone else, such as the company logo, too can be decisive ones.

A company’s status can also be gauged on the basis of how long they have been in the business and who their current clients are. One might also try to find out if the company has won any Web design awards. It’s a nice sign if they have, but it’s not a good idea to be dismissive if they have not.

For large and significant projects, it may be important to know whether the company will be taking on other projects while working on one’s project. For example, if the project is complicated, one might not want someone who may be overextending himself.

Finally, one can also look at factors such as geographical location, proximity, past experience, and service charges before zeroing in on a company.
